Tierra Santa Exhibition at Instituto Cervantes, Manchester
Back in 2018, and before I even dreamed of my project ‘Tierra Santa’ (Sacred Land) to become a photobook, I had the incredible opportunity to exhibit some of the project photographs at the Cervantes Institute, Manchester. This was great as it was the first time that I would have a solo #photoExhibition of my work. The exhibition had 10 pictures with some of them as big as 1 metre on the longest side. I tried to choose pictures that could tell a story on their own but at the same time I wanted people to get a feeling of the project as a whole, so the planing and designing of the structure took a long time.
The opening was run with the help of RedEye, a Manchester based photography organisation that I have had a close relationship with for a long time. It included a presentation of the project by me and then a conversation between me and two Spanish professors from Manchester Metropolitan University followed by a Q&A.
Running a photo exhibition is a great experience that every photographer should try at least once, but it doesn’t come without its own challenges, like being very time consuming and expensive to name the two most obvious ones.
