This was my second time in India. My first visit, back in 2023, took me through the north. This time, I wanted something different—so I headed south.

In early 2025, David Solomons—the founder of Bump Books—approached me about a potential collaboration. I was thrilled to contribute to their renowned series of street photography zines, having long admired the diverse range of photographers in the Bump Books collection.

In March 2025 I finally made it to Istanbul, a city I’d always wanted to visit and one that truly deserves its place among the best in the world for street photography.

Back in January 2023, I had the opportunity to travel to a country I had always wanted to photograph. With her vibrant colours and the diversity of people, religions, landscapes and cityscapes, India has huge appeal to photographers, and she certainly didn’t disappoint!

Hannah Shelmerdine is a passionate, adventurous young woman with severe cerebral palsy, a group of permanent movement disorders that appear in early childhood. Her mobility and her vision are severely impaired and she needs round-the-clock care from support workers.

My first time in a Sub-Saharan African country was in Ethiopia, and to be honest I wasn’t sure what to expect. Well, yes I know, I was expecting to get ‘in the zone’ at all times and take hundreds of great pictures like I expect from all my photography trips. Not too much to ask, is it?
